Frances Jean (Howard) Collins

A Life of Kindness and Dedication

Frances Jean (Howard) Collins, affectionately known as “Cissi” or “Fran” to most, passed away on January 23, 2026, at the age of 75 in her home in San Augustine.

Born on June 16, 1951, in Ridgecrest, California, she was the daughter of Tina Arbell (Scroggins) Howard and Francis “Frank” Eugene Howard. Frances dedicated many years of her life working for San Augustine I.S.D., where she left a lasting impression until her retirement.

Her Passions and Personality

Frances found joy in traveling, spending time at the beach, and fishing were among a few of her passions. She cherished visiting moments with friends and loved ones and showed a deep affection for animals, especially her beloved pup, Molly. Her home was filled with beautiful plants and flowers, reflecting her love for nature. An excellent cook, Frances was especially renowned for her delicious homemade potato salad.

Although she did not have biological children, Frances adored all children and enjoyed interacting with them. She was known for her gentle nature, always kind-hearted, soft-spoken, and generous. Frances had a selfless spirit, often putting others’ needs before her own and striving to see the good in everyone and everything.

Family and Loved Ones

Frances is survived by two very dear friends whom she loved deeply, John and Jeannie Blue of San Augustine. She leaves behind many long-time beloved friends, her step-niece Tanya Williams, along with Tanya’s husband Bart and their family in Wisconsin. Additionally, she is remembered by her stepchildren and their respective families, of the late Billy Joe Collins: Billy & Kristi Collins of San Augustine, Kelly Collins & Wendy of Wells, Texas, Bryan Collins of Orange, Bobby & Tessa Collins of Timpson, and Crystal & Thomas Crawford of Orange; step-grandchildren, Justin, Clyde, Lance, Chance, Kayley, Abbie, Britini, and Leeah; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Francis “Frank” and Arbell Howard, and her brother, Wayne Howard.

In Remembrance

Arrangements are being handled by Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in San Augustine. A private inurnment at Pickard Cemetery will be planned for a later date for friends, loved ones, and extended family.
